The Devils Right Hand Dante Valentine Book 3

Dante Valentine, Necromancer and bounty hunter, just wants to be left alone. But the Devil has other ideas.

The Prince wants Dante. And he wants her now. And Dante and her lover, Japhrimel, have no choice but to answer the Prince’s summons. And to fulfill a seemingly simple task: become the Devil’s Right Hand, hunt down four demons that have escaped from Hell, and earn His gratitude.

It’s a shame that nothing is ever easy when it comes to the Devil. Because of course, he doesn’t tell Dante the whole truth: there is a rebellion brewing in Hell. And there is a good chance that Lucifer is about to be pushed off the throne.

But Dante is getting really tired of being pushed around. And this time, she might be angry enough to take on the Devil himself…

3 Stars Found main character’s attitude inconsistent with the last books and irritating
Now, the book ends well, and begins well. But Dante’s character whines and moans throughout the entire middle, to the point that the reader gets extremely annoyed. Even if trust issues and human emotions are part of her character, her behavior was over the top, even for “damaged goods”. She acts like becoming a hedaira has thrown her hormones into frenzy, and when the character notices it herself, i think it may be a bit too much. I didn’t understand the last review that explained that to me. I do now. Some mistakes, not in typos, but in repeating large quantities of information (sometimes almost word for word from the last book) too frequently, were very noticeable.

Still a good read, if you don’t mind getting a tad angry.

4 Stars Stating to get a bit whiney
The Dante Valentine series has not lacked for action so far and this book delivers. It’s a bit whiney w/ more stupid, obvious mistakes but still a good read.

4 Stars The Danny from book 1 is back but there isn’t much plot resolution in this book.
This is the third book in the Dante Valentine series by Lilith Saintcrow. Thankfully it was much, much better than the second book.

The books starts with Danny living peacefully in Toscano with Japh by her side. Danny is finally getting to do some research into her half-demon nature and Japh remains silent about any information he could give her. The peaceful existence falls to pieces when a summons from Lucifer comes and Danny and Japh can no longer ignore it. Lucifer forces Danny to be his Right-Hand for seven years. Lucifer has 4 demons that he wants Danny to hunt down and kill. When Japh throws getting his demonic power returned to him into the bargain and leaves Danny alone with no explanation, she ends up in quite the fix.

There was a lot of action in this book and the return of the more self-sufficient Danny that we were introduced to in book one. I really liked the inclusions of other demons and the ending took a twist that I wasn’t expecting. Really it was the ending that made this book for me and tied Danny into a mess so complicated that it was intensely interesting. I really liked this book it was fast paced and easy to read. Danny got a new sword and it is awesome to have her fighting how she likes to fight.

I still have a number of complaints. I *still* think Danny acts strange about Japh. She needs to stop being so obsessed over him. I was also disappointed at the pace of the storyline; the storyline didn’t progress as far as I had expected. In fact the third and fourth book (which I am in the middle of) would have probably been more appropriate as one book. I was also frustrated with how Danny’s half-demon nature is made a big deal of but we still don’t know anything about it. Most of these things could be done intentionally by Saintcrow to take us by surprise later and I guess I will have to wait and see about that. At the end of this book I was glad I had the next one because there really isn’t anything resolved in this book, just more questions.

This was a good book. I enjoyed it, much better than the second book. Hopefully in the fourth book some of the plot-lines will find some resolution.

5 Stars Another winner for Saintcrow!
Saintcrow’s latest Dante Valentine installment does not disappoint! The Devil’s Right Hand is a visionary piece of futuristic urban fantasy that takes an in-depth look at good and evil.

Saintcrow doesn’t paint a saintly protagonist, in fact, Dante is in love with a fallen demon. Dante struggles with herself realizing that sometimes she has an evil streak in her. And Japhrimel, the fallen angel, is a blend of good and evil as well. Within the plot, Saintcrow explores a realistic human nature, that all of us struggle to balance the forces of light and dark within ourselves.

Like Saintcrow’s previous heroines, Dante is sexy, intelligent, fearless, and lethal. She is a refreshing look at a strong woman who struggles to allow herself vulnerable moments.

Saintcrow assumes her readers are intelligent, and she writes with a blend of history, mythology, and imagination that is derivative of nothing in the genre. Saintcrow’s writing includes gorgeous passages like this one of Dante explaining the feeling of power: “It ran out my toes, a crackling tide of burning leaving me molten and shaken. I blinked several times, something fine and dusty falling from my eyelashes. Closed my eyes, still blind. Let my head tip back like a heavy fruit on my limp stem of a neck” (p227).

Though this is the third installment in the series of five, it can be read as a stand-alone book. Saintcrow balances backstory without being repetitive, and a glossary at the end of the book will clear up any questions a new reader might have. Saint City Sinners is book four, and To Hell and Back finishes the series.

2 Stars From Strong to Pathetic
The book started off with Dante and her demon in love, living in peace. Then the plot arrives and goes down hill from there. Seriously, chapter after chapter of a pathetic woman debating her relationship with her boyfriend. The previous book at least had a good story line mixed in with her miserable whining. This reminded me a lot of Laurell K. Hamilton’s later books where the main character turns into a pathetic mess. I had hope for this author long term but not anymore. I am done…

The Devil Served Tortellini

For Maria Pagliano, too much of a good thing has always been a problem. Whether it’s men or carbs, she just can’t say no. But that’s about to change. For her high school reunion, Maria’s vowed to reinvent herself as a woman who has her life strictly in order. No more pasta, bread, dessert, or dating- even if the menu offering is one sexy chef named Dante Del Rosso. Everything about Dante is off-limits. From his come-hither smile to his sultry way around the kitchen in his Boston restaurant, he’s too much temptation…for her taste buds and her heart. Just being around the guy makes her crave more. The only thing to do is go cold turkey on Dante. But he has other ideas. Now, this devil is out to woo his dream woman using every spicy, sweet, and sinfully delicious weapon he’s got. And once Maria gets a taste of the real thing, how can she possibly settle for anything less?

4 Stars A nice Sunday Morning Read
The Devil Served Tortellini was a very cute story. Maria has her ten-year school reunion coming up and plans to hook up with her old prom date. She wants to fit into a size 8 so she joins The Chubby Chums. After her first meeting she meets Dante outside his Italian Restaurant and sparks fly. If she you enjoy this genre I think you would also enjoy; Mr. Destiny by Candy Halliday, Glory Days by Irene Peterson and The Nine Month Plan by Wendy Markham.

5 Stars Great romance will make you really hungry!
It’s almost time for her 10 year reunion, and Maria Pagliano wants to lose 25 pounds in 8 weeks to charm the pants off former paramour Antonio and compete with former heavyweight, Mary Louise Zipparetto. So it is off to the “Chubby Chums” for weight loss guidance.

Of course, wouldn’t you know that the meetings would be held across the street from an Italian restaurant, where of course she ends up after fleeing the first meeting (for guilt associated with what she ate that day). She meets chef Dante del Rosso, who encourages her to come in and take a load off. Soon she is helping him woo the local food critic. He thinks she is perfect as is, but she is not biting.

Dante is soon in lust with Maria, and manages to insinuate himself in her life by hooking up with her family. She is resistant – she does not want a traditional guy from the neighborhood. But if Dante has his way (and her family and his wait staff…), she will be singing another tune.

It is a great contemporary love story with the added bonuses of some incredible mouth watering Italian recipes (with the most hysterical cooking instructions)!

Maria joins the Chubby Chums weight loss support group. This group is outrageously funny with their supportive sayings. Maria must stick to the crazy group, because she’s definitely having a hard time saying no to her favorite Italian foods. Especially when chef Dante Del Rosso offers up his to-die-for Tortellini.

Dante has finally found a woman who he can picture in his future. But, Maria is not only trying to keep her hands off food, but men are a no-no, too. Dante can’t resist the passion that radiates from Maria or the love that fills up her heart. Her family is crazy and passionate, but Dante has always wanted that for himself. Now, Dante will have to convince Maria that he’s right for her, because she’s certainly fighting the attraction. With the little help of a matchmaking mamma, Dante just might get the woman of his dreams.

Maria is an all around beautiful heroine. She is full of passion, love and excitement. She was once betrayed by a man she was deeply in love with, and the relationship left a deep scar on her heart. Maria doesn’t want to make the same mistake twice, but Dante is just the passionate Italian to get her pulse racing and her heart thumping. Dante rates at the top of list for one the sexiest heroes I’ve ever encountered. And, I totally fell in love with him.

Author Shirley Jump has a writing talent that is pure magic! I always love escaping into a wonderful book by this author, because she definitely knows how to create a world of love, laughter and luscious food. THE DEVIL SERVED TORTELLINI is absolutely hilarious and healthily dosed with scrumptious recipes. Mix in a crazy cast of characters, a fun plot, and pages ripe with excellent Italian dialogue, and you’ve got yourself a keeper. I can’t wait to get my hands on Ms. Jump’s next novel, The Angel Craved Lobster, coming in August 2005! I know it’s going to be scrumptious!

2 Stars Chubby Chums
This was my second book by Shirley Jump and I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first. While the story moved quickly and the writing flowed well, I never really got into it.

I enjoyed that the book was set in Boston and I enjoyed Dante and Arnold but I never liked Maria that well. I never felt like I was rooting for her and Dante to be together and I hate books where the main character is always fretting about her diet.

I also never felt the chemistry between Maria and Dante.

I did, however, enjoy the Chubby Chums support group greatly and was glad that they were incorporated into the end. I especially liked Arnold. I would hang out with the Chubby Chums to help me achieve my dieting goals. Lord knows I need the help.

4 Stars oh those receipes,,,
I really enjoyed this book especially Dante. I want a Dante of my own please!

Cute story with Maria fighting her cravings to lose the 25lbs for her class reunion and Dante owning an Italian eatery tempting her with his cooking. You got to love his staff and her mama and nanna is a hoot.

3 Stars The Game Rocked
I loved the game, Devil May Cry 3 and for the most part, the book follows the game’s story. I was just unimpressed with the artwork and general style of the drawings. If you’re a huge fan of Dante, you’ll probably still enjoy this book but I’ve been spoiled by better titles such as the Sandman series by Neil Gaiman.

5 Stars devil may cry is the coolest devils I have ever seen ^w^
am sure am gonna love devil may cry espicaly vergil charechter after this comic , it has awesome art work with some Fine dialoge but i was hopped that they could painted it and to concentrate on the drawing of the two main charechter (Danti and Vergil) cuz they don’t like twin brothers as we all know it , exept that its very cool am gonna make my first (Devil May Cry) comics collection starting from this volume .

5 Stars Dante’s story is awesome as always
I think the style of the artist completely fits the story. The lines are bold and dark with lots of shadows, reminding one of an atmosphere similar to the Crow or Final Fantasy VII: a dark, gritty landscape where violence can happen at any moment, especially amidst the shadows. Dante is well-rendered and absolutely hot (in my humble female opinion). The dialogue is just as gritty, low, sometimes vulgar, but exactly suitable to the type of world in which it is based.

I had thought that it might be hard to render the intense action-oriented scenes that occur in the game stylistically as well as they do in the manga, but I was pleasantly surprised. There are great cut shots to certain aspects of our anti-heros (eyes, gritted teeth, the chunky metal lines of his guns, the wicked length of a katana) that just absolutely fit. All in all, the manga artist makes everything stylistically gorgeous and the story is equally well-paced.

The relationship between Dante and his manager is interesting to see. Character interaction is of course just starting in this first volume and I can only wait with baited breath for the next volume to see just how much more sinister the undertones between brothers, between the opposing factions, get. This story translates so well to manga with just the right amount of gore, just the right amount of action, just the right amount of erotica, and just the right amount of backstory to leave the reader eager for more. I can’t wait!

5 Stars Devil May Cry 3- Wonderful Art
I am reviewing Devil May Cry 3, a manga by Suguro Chayamachi. First things first, the artwork is beautiful. From small detail in fight scenes to detail in conversations (facial), everything looks wonderful. Also, the fight scenes are dymamic and it’s easy to follow the action, so you get a good picture of what’s going on. Now, on to the story. Well written and involved. You want to know what’s on the next page, what happens next, and you’re not disappointed. Well written conversations, varied and believable personalities, placement of characters, and the direction and order of the storyline all come together to keep you an involved reader. All around, this is one of the best mangas I’ve ever seen.

Devil May Cry 3 Volume 2 v 2

3 Stars Lacking…
As much as I love Devil May Cry, the art and dialouge just can’t carry a plot though very well here.

The art, while well done, doesn’t convey a good picture of what’s going on half the time. There are lots of appropriately creepy scenes with skulls, swirling darkness, and such except that they just end up being confusing to the action. Are the skulls attacking? What just happened? And now everything’s dark for no reason…

Dialouge is sporadic and while Dante stays in character well, there isn’t much help explaining a plot. Even if you’re famaliar with DMC3, it can be hard to figure out what’s going on. More dialouge, or even inner monolouges would help to make sense out of a lot of the scenes.

3 Stars For Devil May Cry fans-only
It’s not a really good manga, but you will enjoy it if you’re a fan.
