Devil May Cry 3 Volume 1

Based on the best-selling game, Devil May Cry 3 is an action-packed adventure, pitting good against evil…and brother against brother! Dante is a demon slayer and bounty hunter with a demon heritage of his own that haunts his past. He’s currently unemployed–and bored to death. Opportunity knocks in the form of a missing-child case, which his friend and manager, Enzo, offers him. But a four-million-dollar reward, an unexpected demon attack and a little girl named Alice all conspire to send Dante through the looking glass on a nightmarish adventure beyond his wildest imagination.

3 Stars The Game Rocked
I loved the game, Devil May Cry 3 and for the most part, the book follows the game’s story. I was just unimpressed with the artwork and general style of the drawings. If you’re a huge fan of Dante, you’ll probably still enjoy this book but I’ve been spoiled by better titles such as the Sandman series by Neil Gaiman.

5 Stars devil may cry is the coolest devils I have ever seen ^w^
am sure am gonna love devil may cry espicaly vergil charechter after this comic , it has awesome art work with some Fine dialoge but i was hopped that they could painted it and to concentrate on the drawing of the two main charechter (Danti and Vergil) cuz they don’t like twin brothers as we all know it , exept that its very cool am gonna make my first (Devil May Cry) comics collection starting from this volume .

5 Stars Dante’s story is awesome as always
I think the style of the artist completely fits the story. The lines are bold and dark with lots of shadows, reminding one of an atmosphere similar to the Crow or Final Fantasy VII: a dark, gritty landscape where violence can happen at any moment, especially amidst the shadows. Dante is well-rendered and absolutely hot (in my humble female opinion). The dialogue is just as gritty, low, sometimes vulgar, but exactly suitable to the type of world in which it is based.

I had thought that it might be hard to render the intense action-oriented scenes that occur in the game stylistically as well as they do in the manga, but I was pleasantly surprised. There are great cut shots to certain aspects of our anti-heros (eyes, gritted teeth, the chunky metal lines of his guns, the wicked length of a katana) that just absolutely fit. All in all, the manga artist makes everything stylistically gorgeous and the story is equally well-paced.

The relationship between Dante and his manager is interesting to see. Character interaction is of course just starting in this first volume and I can only wait with baited breath for the next volume to see just how much more sinister the undertones between brothers, between the opposing factions, get. This story translates so well to manga with just the right amount of gore, just the right amount of action, just the right amount of erotica, and just the right amount of backstory to leave the reader eager for more. I can’t wait!

5 Stars Devil May Cry 3- Wonderful Art
I am reviewing Devil May Cry 3, a manga by Suguro Chayamachi. First things first, the artwork is beautiful. From small detail in fight scenes to detail in conversations (facial), everything looks wonderful. Also, the fight scenes are dymamic and it’s easy to follow the action, so you get a good picture of what’s going on. Now, on to the story. Well written and involved. You want to know what’s on the next page, what happens next, and you’re not disappointed. Well written conversations, varied and believable personalities, placement of characters, and the direction and order of the storyline all come together to keep you an involved reader. All around, this is one of the best mangas I’ve ever seen.

3 Stars Lacking…
As much as I love Devil May Cry, the art and dialouge just can’t carry a plot though very well here.

The art, while well done, doesn’t convey a good picture of what’s going on half the time. There are lots of appropriately creepy scenes with skulls, swirling darkness, and such except that they just end up being confusing to the action. Are the skulls attacking? What just happened? And now everything’s dark for no reason…

Dialouge is sporadic and while Dante stays in character well, there isn’t much help explaining a plot. Even if you’re famaliar with DMC3, it can be hard to figure out what’s going on. More dialouge, or even inner monolouges would help to make sense out of a lot of the scenes.

3 Stars For Devil May Cry fans-only
It’s not a really good manga, but you will enjoy it if you’re a fan.

Devil May Cry Volume 1 Vol 1

Tony is a rough-and-tumble jack-of-all-trades with a haunted past. His encounter with Gilver, a mysterious swordsman swathed in bandages, changes his life dramatically for the worse. Tony is thrust into the dark underworld of an unsolvable case, separated from his partner and his loved ones, and pushed over the edge of desperation. Who’s forcing him into a corner? What do they hope to achieve? The world of this first in a series of exciting novels connects to the thrilling smash-hit game, Devil May Cry.

3 Stars Completely negated by DMC 3
This would have to happen in some alternate universe to canon now, as “Devil May Cry 3″ basically wiped out the premise to this book (Dante doesn’t know who he is until just before DMC 1). This also suffers (worse than the second novel, IMO) from a clumsy translation from the Japanese, and the art is not as good. If you’re a completest, you’ll want this, but if you’re looking for an introduction to the DMC universe, I’d go elsewhere.

5 Stars Riveting and Relentless
Thought you’d need a PSP for the ultimate wireless Devil May Cry experience? Not necessarily, Shin-Ya Goikeda delivers a in-depth tale of a hit-man with a rockstar attitude and a knack for being in the wrong place at the right time. Whether you’ve played the games or not this book is great for anyone who enjoys a great action/sci-fi novel. This story is about the revalation of one man and his transition into who he really is.

Fun but not for the faint of heart, you will laugh and cry.

4 Stars Devil May Cry: A Prequel
Story:

Tony Redgrave is just trying to enjoy his life as the best mercenary in town with his partner and friend Grue when these pesky demons keep showing up and trying to kill him. Soon a mysterious swordsman by the name of Gilver comes into town and begins working with Tony on jobs that become increasingly violent and dangerous. Not long after Tony’s friends begin disappearing one by one. Until finally there is only Tony and Gilver. It soon becomes clear that Gilver is behind all of the recent trouble and the disappearances of Tony’s friends. Now Tony must find his true self and face his destiny as Dante the son of Sparda.

If your interested in the Devil May Cry series, anime or scifi/action novels then you’ll proably like this book. It does read like an anime cartoon so it does help to be familar with at least one of the above or the pacing may seem a little off and some of the events may seem a little off. But hey where else are you going to find a knock down drag out fight/iniation test finished by a drinking match featuring the worst beer in the city? Scenes like that make this book fun and interesting. Would recommend to anyone who likes DMC,anime, or scifi/action novels.

5 Stars Devil May Cry Vol 1 Book
Excellent book, and interesting storyline. High regards. Received in perfect condition, and quick and easy transaction.

3 Stars We deserve better than this.
Some of my points have been covered in other reviews (like it not making sense, since in DMC 3 Dante knew who he was, whereas this book says he didn’t know leading all the way up to DMC1) so I’d just like to touch on the writing. Being a huge fan of the games, I may have expected too much. But let me just quote an excerpt from a section I read last night.

Dante (Tony) is fighting demons in a bank. By this point, he’s already been in there for 2 full pages.

‘He lashed out in ecstasy, killing several demons with a single right kick.

“I’m not finished yet.!”

Tony spun in mid-air, stabbing his heel into a number of demons simultaneously. They evaporated into black dust. He repeated the strategy throughout the room, obliterating his opponents.

In the end, Tony stood alone, breathing heavily. The shadows that had threatened to overcome him were gone.

Less than a minute had passed since Tony entered the bank…’

Really? Are you kidding me? Dante is cool, but I’ve never seen him kick into several enemies at once and kill them all. And less than a minute since he entered the bank? So he killed all the demons (his second time doing so) in 30 or so seconds by kicking them? He didn’t even use his sword (his guns at this point are being fixed). I mean, come on. This is a mediocre fan fiction. You can get stories like this off the internet. It’s just every time I try to read this I come across things like that. Like I said, Dante is cool but give me a break. I deserve better than this. We deserve better than this.
